A golfer has a tendency to hang back on the swing and try to help the ball up but that is the wrong thing to do. And if you do this inconsistently your approach shots will never be the correct distance. If you are inconsistent hitting the golf ball on approach shots it is obvious the score will rise.
To be a good iron player and let your golf equipment do the job it was designed to do you have to hit down and through all the iron shots, even the wedges. Here is a couple good swing thoughts for you to remember. Keep everything moving forward all of the way through the shot, do not hold back.
The other thought is when you hit the golf ball the back of your left hand should be facing the target. You need to feel as if you are backhanding the ball at the time of contact. the nine iron will always go the correct distance if you hit it the same way every time, thus lowering the score count, everybody’s goal.
This is a good tip for a beginners guide to golf and a good reminder for the rest of us also. Now get out there and hit the ball, have fun.
How to add Zip to your Irons
Here is a good beginners guide to golf and probably many other of us experienced golfers to improve your golf swing. If you feel like your golf clubs just do not have the power feel behind them you would like, maybe you are trying to hard.
If you hit your golf ball on your approach shot and it falls short and right of the target this could be your problem. This high right miss of the target happens when you try to help your ball get up in the air so it lands soft on the green. But all the golf ball does is balloon up in the air and fall to the ground short of the target like a wounded duck.
This comes from hanging back on the swing and leaving your weight on your back foot to long in an effort to help the ball up in the air. That swing just turns your golf club, say an eight iron into a nine or pitching wedge which is why it falls short.

Getting out of the rough tips part 4
The important thing about hitting short green side golf shots is to practice them. Practice with ever variation of golf club combinations and golf ball lies that you can. You do not have to always hit the ball on to a green to practice.
Find different textures of grass anywhere and pick a spot 30 feet away and hit to that spot with different degrees of lofted golf clubs and see how they work. Look when they land and see if they are soft or want to take off. This will all help your short game and we know, drive for show, putt for doe.
Another short game or even in any rough golf tip is this. In thick of tall grass, especially if the golf ball is settled in, your golf club will turn during the stoke. The hossel side of the club, where the shaft is, will definitely catch the grass and turn. When the club turns the face will close and your towards will be off. Hold the club tighter than normal and open the face before you swing.
Practice, practice, practice. the three most important things to improve your golf swing on your short game.
Getting out of the rough tip part 2
We were figuring out our lie to determine the correct golf club for the green side chip in, or at least close, for a one putt. If the green is fairly flat and we do not have to worry about the golf ball rolling way passed the flag after it lands our choices widen up.
On thinner grass you can use a seven iron and just use your putter stroke for that distance. This is a lot harder than it sounds and will need practice before you can do it well. But what you are doing is the golf ball will come up over the grass slightly and land ,hopefully, on the edge of the green and run in the cup.
If you use this method and use the same speed stroke as if putting from that distance this shot can work very well.
come back later on the other options and different golf equipment choices and shots to get up and down from here.
Getting out of the rough tip 1
You hit from 165 out and your towards was off. Meaning the golf ball did not go towards where you aimed it to go. Now there you are 10 yards left of the green in the thick green side grass. What now, are you nervous on this shot?
Are you unsure of which one of your short distance golf clubs to use. Well that can depend on the slope of the green sometimes, do you want the ball to run when it lands? Or is it down hill from where you are and where the golf ball will land on the green so you want to stop the ball or land very soft and stick? Oh yea and how thick and long is the grass really?
All questions that need an answer to decide how to handle this next shot. And another thing, it does not do any good to still be upset that you hit the ball here in the first place, GET OVER IT.
come back later for golf tips around the green to see how we do on this one.
The Perfect Swing
I’ve had a flair for the game of golf since my father took me out to the local public course at age 6. Although I wasn’t immediately allowed to join the adult pairings for a casual round, the golf course staff took me under their wing, allowing me to help clean the golf carts and eat lunch inside the clubhouse. I began to take the game seriously soon after that as I realized by some fluke of biology that I had a perfect swing.
You could have taken my swing along with that of “Slammin’” Sammy Snead’s and created an exact composite. I went on to win numerous amateur titles and even thought about joining the PGA someday. Then life got in the way and my interests turned toward engineering. I never forgot the proper way to swing a golf club, but when I pick up an iron these days it takes a while to shake off the rust.
Beginners golf tips part 5
As you play golf and practice on the golf range you may notice some of the distances of the clubs are almost the same. The 7 fairway wood hits the ball 170 yards and so does the 5 iron. This is normal and there are clubs that overlap. Use the one you prefer or have better control over.
Some golfers prefer irons and can hit them very well even the 3, 4, and 5 while others prefer to hit fairway woods or hybrid woods. It is all up to you and what makes you comfortable. Always use the best golf equipment suited to your swing and game. Your mid irons 6-7-8-9- are designed to hit the ball higher and land it softer on the green.
As you aim at the green accuracy is very important and the short irons, 9, pitching wedge, sand wedge are the clubs you need to know how to hit effectively. Always remember drive for show putt for doe. Meaning the good golf scores are made around the green on the short game.
Beginner Golf Tips 101 part 4
The golf driving ranges have distance markers on them so you can get an idea how far you hit each club. That will transfer to the par 3 coarse as you are improving your golf swing while on the real course. Now comes time to hit your first tee shot on the course.
First thing is how far away is the green so you know which club to use. It could be farther than you hit your driver or not, so make sure you hit the golf club that will get you on the green, distance wise.
As you play you are on a huge learning curve so relax and enjoy the experience. Swing easy and hit the correct club for the distance. You have learned on the range that every club is for a certain distance so use that knowledge and let the club do the work, do not over swing.
Beginners golf tips 101 part 3
As you keep coming back to the driving range and working to improve your golf swing on all of the clubs in your bag you think about the next step. Playing golf on the course is your goal now. Hold on there, you are not really ready for the first game on the golf course just yet.
You need to run through your golf clubs in your bag and learn the distances that you hit them. Of coarse i mean how far you hit them when they are well struck. The reason for this is so you do not hit the people in front of you. And so you can hit the green and not hit the ball 60 yards over the green into the woods or on the next tee box.
It is probably best if you can to go play a par three or executive course a few times first. These golf courses are much shorter and more suited for your level of play.
beginners golf 101 part 2
Now you have worked you way up in sizes of your golf clubs and you are looking at the big driver in you bag. You have been improving your golf swing with the irons like your friend told you to do. And you feel pretty good about your golf swing so why not give the driver a try.
If you swing the driver the same speed as your irons the ball should go much farther so that should really be fun. So you give it a swing and find out it ain’t easy. The extra length and weight out so far is creating a problem. Then you remember your friend told you this would happen so you choke up and swing a little slower and you at least hit the ball instead of the ground.
