How to practice golf shots

Golf Practice Routine TipsMost golfers can go to a  driving range and beat the ball around but do not know how to get the most of there time and energy.  They don’t  get the focused quality practice that will help him or her golf  better when the game begins.

How does one practice more efficiently and effectively to improve their golf swing? Here are some guide lines to help you. Take all of your golf clubs and hit all of your clubs, but do not hit more than ten in a row with any one of them.   Hit your driver then your hybrid golf clubs on down to your wedges.

To learn the motor skills of repetition you need to play the game of golf  you need to practice the way you play. Try changing lies and clubs often,  always have a target, direction and distance, in mind and shot at it. Try full swings, half swings,  specialty shots, you know , just try to duplicate what you encounter on the golf course.

How to Select Golf Gloves

Golf Glove Most golfers won’t take a swing until they put on their golf glove. It is an optional piece of golf apparel or equipment but used  by most golfers,  the ladies and the men.

The glove goes on the target side hand to provide grip on the golf club and also provides a comfortable feel to instill confidence. But it is usually taken off for putting to get the added feel of the stoke .  It is not much chance of the putter slipping in your hands, actually just the opposite.   Many gloves also have a ball marker that detaches which is quite handy.

The golf glove is made of soft leather that feels like a second skin because it is fitted tight and stretched on the hand and held with Velcro. There is also a synthetic version that is cheaper but probably will not last as long as the soft leather golf gloves.

”Knockoff” clubs are imitation golf clubs built with lowest quality workmanship and low quality materials. They may even have the expensive  golf club logos on them. So you need to be careful and use a legitimate outlet to purchase your golf  clubs, online or in a store.

If you check out a local pro shop they should have demo golf clubs to try out on the driving range and some of them will let you take them on the golf course. And again, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money you can check out large golf stores, pro shops, and especially  online to find what you want and save a considerable amount of ching  and still have good quality golf clubs, just by purchasing good quality discount golf clubs.

The real deal is how the clubs feel when you use them. On the driving range and especially on the golf course in real playing condition and the way you use them. As you improve your skill level and you understand the game more you can add quality clubs one at a time or in sets.

Ok if you read the golf clubs 101 you have some basic knowledge on golf equipment  and what to do to get started playing the greastest game there is, GOLF.

Now get out there and have some fun, life is short, play golf

Golf clubs 101 part 5

You can spend as much or as little as you want on golf equipment. The price range on all of the golf club sets or individual clubs varies greatly.  And as with cars the more expensive brands are made with better quality materials and better precision.

You can spend as little as $140 and buy a set of irons that will hit the ball very well.  Also you can buy a high tech, top of the line,  your buddies are slobbering over super driver and the ball will still slice out of bounds, go figure.

You can spend $1000 on a quality brand name set of golf clubs and that can be a good investment for years to come. They will last a long time and give you plenty of time to bond with there characteristics. And you can also add other brands of clubs or update clubs over time that work better for your swing and style. If you try out your friends sand wedge and it works very well and you have been struggling with yours since day one maybe it is time for a change. It does not matter that his sand wedge is a different brand of golf club, you do not have to buy another set. If you look at the sets of clubs around the club house you will notice all the clubs in the bags  do not match.

The flex and stiffness of the shaft on your golf equipment is determined by the golfers strength. If your swing speed is slower it is recommended that you use a more flexible shaft. And Vissa versa the faster the swing speed the stiffer the shaft should be, both to help get the most distance out of your golf ball and to help keep it online.

A golf pro can help you determine your swing speed but if you are just starting out the speed my change quit a bit before you settle on what is comfortable. At first men want to kill the ball and blast it to hell and gone. But after buying dozens of new golf  balls and using found balls  it is learned that how to hit a golf ball is a more moderate swing that keeps the ball in play.

On the other hand women swing slow and deliberate to start. And as they get more comfortable and make some good contact on the golf  ball the swing speed picks up.

So until you are set in your swing speed, and that could take some  golf range time and about 20 to 30 games,  you really can not buy the correct swing speed shaft for your golf club for the long haul.

The  newer  Titleist golf clubs have perimeter weighting, along with many other quality club manufacturers, which just means the most weight of the club head is around the outside of the club. This helps to ensure that the ball travels straighter even if you hit the ball a little off of center. This promotes consistency in your ball flight and helps keeping you from buying dozens of new golf balls when you hit them in the water or the woods.

Your golf club length is determined, as you might have guessed, by your height and length of your arms.    There are also different grip sizes, you guessed it, for different sizes of hand. To thick of a grip restricts the movement of your wrist and you can not get the club around to square on impact so the ball always goes right.  And if the club grip is to small it can cause problems getting a correct grip and fitting your hands on the club properly.

Golf Clubs 101 part 2

Ok you are hitting some balls and have a  good set of used golf clubs that you really do not know much about yet.  And you are getting ready to play a game you have only seen.  So lets learn some basics because you need some education.

A full set of golf clubs  consists of 14 clubs.  A typical set consists of a driver, the big one with the long handle, just kidding. Also two or three woods or hybrid golf clubs,  seven or eight irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge and a putter.

They use many different  materials (graphite, boron, steel and titanium, to name a few) to make the shafts and club heads to serve a variety of purposes to suit a golfer’s individual needs.

Each golf club, wood,  hybrid or iron have different loft or angle on the club face for different situations, and to hit the golf ball different distances with the same swing speed.  The driver has a longest shaft of all the other clubs in the bag and from there the shaft  length gets shorter as the the angle or pitch on the club head gets loftier.  So your wedges are the shortest clubs which should make them the easiest to control and hit properly, good luck.   come back later for more golf clubs 101

Golf ClubsAfter years of your buddies telling you their golf stories and all the fun you miss out on  when  they go on the golf trips       you’ve decided to take up golf. Great!  Now it’s time to make a decision about golf clubs and what to buy.

OK now what?  You can use that hand-me-down set in the garage that has been there for who knows how long.  Maybe go to a garage sale and pick some clubs up that look pretty nice.  How about going to a golf cub store and getting some knowledge, that might be even better.

Once you start playing you pretty much know you are going to play a long time, so what is the best way to do this?  If you ask your buddies they are going to love spending your money to get you up and running, do you really need to spend hundreds right off of the bat,  probably would be good if you can afford it. other wise you can get a used set of good quality experienced clubs that kind of fit you and hit the range. With a little coaching you are on your way to playing the best game ever, golf.

The eleventh hole part 2

Ok in part 1 i was 150 out in the fairway. Now i have 150 to the green with only one dog leg, two large bunkers, a pond and a huge oak tree to miss. I could hit to in front of the green to a safe spot just between the bunkers and miss all the trouble but what fun is that?

So today i go to the golf bag and I choose  the six iron,  pull up my big boy pants and hit the titleist golf balls over the oak tree and onto the green.  Here is a , usually that does not work out because the oak tree claims way to many golf balls and throws them in the woods. A hazard, not good, and you loss many, many golf balls trying these high risk golf shots. I was just lucky this time.  Now just putt it in on this saddle shaped green 16 feet and your done, hopefully in one or two putts at the most. That makes it a birdie or par on this par five and around here that is very good. That’s it, the dreaded par five eleventh hole, considered the toughest hole to par of all eighteen.

A Father and Son Golf Outing

Every father feels a surge of pride the first time he takes his son out to the links. My son was 8 when I bought him a set of junior clubs and we arranged a weekend tee time at the local course. Knowing that the going would be slow, I tried to time the round to be played just before dusk so that we wouldn’t hold anyone up. It turned out that the kid had a natural flair for the game, and his swing showed a lot of potential.

We spent the drive home talking about golf etiquette – the way you’re supposed to behave on the green, the order of play and so on. Then I lectured him on the virtues of spending an hour or two on the driving range to hone each shot. He had already expressed enthusiasm about putting in some time on the putting green. All in all, the day was a huge success. I did make a mental note to bring some colored golf balls next time, though. The kid lost at least five balls in the woods.
