Tiger and Phil at East Lake

Two late birdies by Tiger were not enough to catch Phil but it did move tiger up to first in the fed-ex cup race and the $10 million bonus.  So this season Tiger played 17 times after knee surgery and won six times and finished second nine times. A nice year indeed.

Phil had to like the way the day went because he started the day two back of  Tiger and finished three strokes ahead in the end. And he got $1.3 million for the win and $3 million for second in the fed-ex cup. Not a bad payday with the bad economy and all.  Now Phil is second in the world ranking again and ready for an assault on first next year. So now he can go home and polish up the Calloway golf clubs for next year, yea right!

Tiger /Phil East Lake tournament

 Phil Mickelson with his Callaway golf clubs and Tiger Woods with his Nike golf clubs put on a great show this week.   Phil won the tournament  or the battle and Tiger lost the battle but won the war, the fed-ex cup.  Sunday the two biggest stars in golf finished first and second in a tournament for only the eighth time in history.

 But never before has the top two shared the spotlight and both got top paychecks and trophies that were meaningful to both of them in there own way.   Phil has had a tough summer since his  mother and wife were goth diagnosed with breast cancer and he stayed of the tour for most of the summer. And then to come back and win this tournament has to be a huge accomplishment.
