When you  start your backswing on a long putt you have to keep in your mind to make the stroke long and smooth. Your left wrist, on righthanded golfers, starts out cupped but if you let your wrists react to the club head weight it will flatten out.

Then on the downswing you should not even be thinking about your speed, you set that with your backswing distance. The hinge you created on the backswing with your left wrist will work in your favor on the way down. Hit the ball with your right hand and allow the putter head to rotate closed before you hit the golf ball.

With practice and perserverence you can improve your golf swing  and sometimes maybe even make a few. Always remember to think draw with the right hand  to help put a good clean roll on the ball, very important.

Most of us golfers, when faced with a very long  putt,  have trouble figuring out the best way to get the golf ball to stop close enough to the hole to make this a two putt hole.  Well here is some tips  that hopefully will help the next time you miss your approach shot.

Don’t get so focused on the length of the putt that you forget how to maintain a smooth stroke.  A short or normal stroke with a stabby motion can leave you very short or very long. You need a long back swing so the putter head can gather momentum to push the golf ball to the hole.

It is also ok to use your wrists a little to get the length of putt correct. Come back later for tips on the proper golf swing for 50 foot putts. No matter what kind of golf equipment you own and how much you paid for your putter practice and patients is always required.

Putt like Tiger, think high draw

Saturday, September 12, 2009 By: john

On the practice green before a skins game Tiger Woods was asked about his golf ball roll on his putts.  He was putting with his right hand only and the putts were rolling truer than the others, like it had topspin.

The golf balls  seemed to fall in the hole for Tiger rather than spin out like the other pro golfers.  I think of hitting a high draw on putts like Jack Nicklaus and controlling the putter with the right hand was his explanation.

Jack and Tiger let the putter swing back to the inside as they feel the putter blade closing slightly as they go through the stroke, with the right hand.

With some practice this technique could work for you and produce a roll that, time after time, will be true.   Hopefully this golf tip will help you so you know how to hit a golf ball on the green to go in the hole.
